Les Déserteurs – Paris, France (11th Arr)

Do you like all kinds of food? Do you like many courses? If you do then you’ll love Les Déserteurs!

This was our very first six course dinner and we were taken to one of the newer restaurants in Paris. The restaurant offers a six course and a four course meal. We took the six course and recommend that you do too!

Soon we realized that we were taken to one of the best restaurants our parents have ever tried. Trust us, our parents go out to dinner a lot and when we say a lot it means more a few times per month. That many.

We’re happy to tell you about our experience in a truly great restaurant. One thing to know is there is no menu, we repeat, no menu. The chefs cook what they think is good and is what is in season. They only choose the best of the best! Who would want to come back if the food isn’t great? Right?

For our first course, we were each served a plate with a small (super tiny) shaved beets and rhubarb salad. Sophie liked the plate a lot because she loves beets and the flavors of the vegetables were super sweet and the rhubarb under it was super tart (like rhubarb is supposed to taste) and soft. She liked this dish a lot. Juliette liked the dish because the dressing on the beets were sweet and the rhubarb was tart and it went well with the beets.

The next course was a soft boiled egg with a creamy artichoke mousse. Sophie loved the egg because it was super soft and the yolk was very liquidy and the mousse had such a light creamy texture to it that tasted like a real artichoke. Juliette loved the artichoke mousse. She liked that it tasted good and was very light and creamy.

For our third course we were served a white fish with Thai spices. Our dad was so impressed that he made it his favorite dish he had ever tasted! Now that is amazing! He did not even have to use a fish knife to cut the fish, it was that perfect. Sophie loved the fish because it was seasoned very well and the sauce that was placed on the end of the plate had a nice kick to it and had an amazing flavor. Juliette liked the fish because it was cooked very well.

The next plate that was placed in front of us was a piece of pork with it’s ‘jus.’ Sophie liked the sauce that was under the pork because it reminded her of Christmas spices and her and her mom kept saying that it tasted like dessert. She also thought that the pork was super juicy and a little sweet. Juliette thought that the pork was cooked perfectly and the ‘jus’ was super good but she thought that the sauce under the meat was a little bit too spicy for her taste.

Then we had an (optional) cheese course. The cheese of the day was a round of Saint Nectaire. The cheese was very good. Sophie was surprised that it didn’t come with fruit or honey or crackers or nuts or any of that good stuff but it was served with bread, just bread. That is the way that they eat cheese courses in France and she loved the cheese course.

Can you believe that this restaurant then served us two desserts? Two! The first dessert was a ginger sorbet, which was too spicy for our palate but our parent’s loved it and were more than happy to eat our portions. The second dessert we were served had chocolate mousse with peanut butter and caramel ice cream. Sophie really loved the dish. She liked how the ice cream tasted like real caramel and how the mousse was super light and fluff and how it had a hint of sweet chocolate. Juliette thought the ice cream was super good and matched well with the peanut butter.

We cannot wait to go back! We hope you feel the same about this restaurant after you try it. And most importantly we hope that you try it!

Parent’s note: This was quite possibly the best meal we have ever had! If you can get reservations to this restaurant you should definitely go – before this restaurant gets an inevitable Michelin Star (or two or three)!
